The MDS-Plus software package for last data acquisition, timing and reference waveforms generation

MDSplus is a general-purpose Data Acquisition System jointly developed by MIT IGI and LANL. It is currently used at CMOD, RFX and TCV in Lausanne, and is becoming the standard "de facto" for data access in US devices.

MDSPlus provides a very flexible definition of data by means of the use of expressions. Expressions allow the definition of new data items, representing the combination of other data items, e.g. to combine experimental results with calibration data. MDSPlus provides also graphical user interfaces for data display and configuration set-up.

Originally developed for OpenVMS, MDSplus has been ported to the various flavours of UNIX and to Windows. New Java-based graphical interfaces have been developed at IGI providing platform-independent tools for local and remote data display and set-up.

The most popular java application is jScope, which provides a rich graphical interface to waveforms and frame sequences. jScope is used in several laboratories, and provides data visualization also for data store in non MDSplus databases, such as Textor and FTU. jScope is available for several platforms and can be downloaded from here.
