Yesterday, Mrs Anna Maria Fioretti, Scientific Attachè of the Italian Embassy in Canberra Australia, visited the ITER Neutral Beam Test Facility (NBTF) in Padova, in preparation of the video conference event "Visit SPIDER and learn how to make a sun on Earth" of 17th April 2019, between the Energy Change Institute of Australian National University, CNR, and Consorzio RFX. The event has been organized within the framework of the celebrations for the Italian Research Day in the World. “There is a large space for collaboration between Australia and Italy in a variety of topics related to fusion science and energy technology” said Mrs Fioretti on visiting the ITER Neutral Beam Test Facility. During the video conference, the CNR (Ionized Gas Institute) and Consorzio RFX activities, in particular the ITER- NBTF project will be presented with a focus on SPIDER the most powerful negative ion source in the world, in operation since 11 June 2018.

 
The acceptance test of the European-Japan  components of the MITCA 1 MV power supply system is scheduled in a few days at Consorzio RFX. The connection of the 1MV transmission line, procured by ITER Japan, with the Faraday Cage (HVD1) hosting the ion source and extraction power Supplies has been performed.
It follows the positive tests at 1,2 MV high voltage, applied for 3600 seconds, of the SF6 insulated transmission line, procured by ITER Japan and realized by Hitachi.
The High Voltage Deck 1, procured by EU, is a unique device, consisting of a two-floors metallic box hosting the ISEPS, the Ion Source and Extraction Power Supplies which feed the ion source of MITICA.  HVD1 is insulated, to ground for −1 MV dc by means of 8 post insulators supporting the whole structure. The size is stately with is 12 m × 8 m × 10 m (L × W × H). The post insulators are around 6.5 m high.
Following the HVD1 test, another important test will be performed by connecting the HVD1 to the1 MV Insulating Transformer, to complete acceptance of HV system.

SPIDER è il prototipo della sorgente di ioni negativi di Deuterio che ha l’obiettivo di creare una corrente di 40 A.
È partita da poco la fase di Commissioning integrato per gli alimentatori dell’esperimento che serviranno a tenere in tensione la High Voltage Deck (HVD) e ad alimentare le griglie di accelerazione. Il sistema di alimentazione di fattura indiana dovrà garantire 96 kV di tensione e 75 A di corrente. Per confermare il raggiungimento di questi standard l’impianto è stato sottoposto a una serie di test supervisionati da ITER IO, F4E, ITER India e Consorzio RFX.
In particolare sono state eseguite delle prove di cortocircuito per confermare che i tempi di spegnimento e avvio fossero corretti e permettessero di supportare l’alimentazione delle griglie di accelerazione.
Superate in settembre, queste prime prove relative all’Acceptance test, ora il sistema è in fase di commissioning  per provare la sua funzionalità in connessione con gli impianti di alimentazione e il sistema id controllo di SPIDER.  Una volta superata quest’ultima fase di accordo, con gli altri sistemi del prototipo, si potrà finalmente avere l’accelerazione del fascio di SPIDER.
