On Thursday 10 January 2019, the assembly of the tiles on the structure of the STRIKE calorimeter began.
The STRIKE calorimeter has been designed with the main task of characterizing the negative ion beam produced by the SPIDER source in terms of uniformity and divergence. It is composed of a metal structure that supports 16 unidirectional carbon fiber tiles, i.e. the carbon fibers are oriented along the direction of the particle beam. Thanks to this high-tech instrument, precision analyses will be performed on the SPIDER beam, allowing an advancement of knowledge in fusion research.
